I talk to bees and bumblebees. When one flies into the conservatory and then finally finds a way out, I always say “Good girl!” or something similar encouraging 😂
I say good morning to the toms/cucumber/melon in the greenhouse when i open it up in the morning. I also say goodnight when i close it up. Total fruitcake!
Does this mean i am discriminating against plants in the garden? Maybe i should ask them if they mind.......
Gardening. The cause of, and solution to, all of my problems.
There are many scientific studies that prove they respond to positive, or negative attention. so, yes. Absolutely, I talk to them, and yes absolutely, I'm sure the neighbors think I'm nuts
I do talk to my plants and the animals, insects that I notice in the garden, I even talk to myself that gets some strange looks at times but I don't care I'm to old to worry about what other people think.
The time you know your in trouble is when you argue with yourself and the other you wins !! 🐗
"You don't stop gardening because you get old, you get old because you stop gardening." - The Hampshire Hog
I have known plants to respond positively to threats: "If it doesn't flower this year, it's coming out."
Very successful technique, IME.
I was chatting away to the plants on the Garden Centre the other day - "would you be happy there, do you think? I wonder if you might be a bit too tall, but you could go in the other bed instead, actually" type of thing. A lady who had evidently been weeding the pots in the next row popped her head up and said 'eh?' so I had to mutter something about talking to the cat (there is one but it wasn't near by). She just grinned and went back to her work.
I told OH and he asked if I was talking to the plants or to my Mum? I suspect he's probably right. I do talk to her quite often in the garden and about plants. She died 7 years ago. There is a distinct possibility that she is the GC cat, of course.
Gardening on the edge of Exmoor, in Devon
“It's still magic even if you know how it's done.”
I talk to the plants, something along the lines of " You're looking very pretty today" or "l'm going to move you over to there, l hope you don't mind". I also apologise to the bees for disturbing them, and l talk to the birds, particularly the blackbird (known as Mr , who understands every word. I may be considered slightly off the wall, but l don't care
