Well I’m sorry if I offended, but having worked for local councils as a gardener I was hugely depressed by the numbers of plants that were stolen and damaged.   I could just about accept little children picking flowers, but finding adults doing so made me very sad.  Public parks are for everyone to enjoy, and that’s hard when things are taken away from them.

So do please ignore me if this offends, and I wholeheartedly apologise if you weren’t responsible, but don’t leave the forum if you otherwise enjoy it.  I will promise not to comment on your posts.

Forums such as these are all too easy to misread, take offence, give offence.  Not for the faint-hearted and it can take a while to feel like part of the community.   As in all such gatherings there will be people you like more, or less, than others as well as topics that are of no interest and which are best ignored.

The only silly question is the one you didn't ask and that could have helped.

That said, taking plant material form anywhere without first asking can be construed as rude and, in some cases, criminal damage so please don't do it again.  Take a photo or ask the owner of the garden - if one is obvious - what their plant is.  They'll be tickled pink that you like it enough to ask.

@helix that would be very much appreciated and thank you for replying. I accept your apology and understand that issue may be very saddening for you.

@Obelixx I didn't misread i understood perfectly. I have always found this forum helpful and very informative .  The only silly question I asked was if anyone could identify a flower.

You are presuming I did commit criminal damage by asking me not to do it again. So the only silly question you didn't ask was did I?

So kindly take your pointy naughty wagging finger and place it back in your pocket as it isn't needed in this case.

Going back to the original point no matter how you swerve around it it was a poor choice of words and very graciously explained by @Helix with their reply.

...for i.d. purposes, more photos are required of the plants in situ, full blooms wide open, and growth habit...   it's not possible to i.d. a rose with what has been provided as the flowers are effectively dead.. sorry..
..but I can tell you it's not 'Margaret Merrill'... that rose does not bloom in clusters of 4 or 5 and does not have prickles on the pedicel as in your pictures...

...perhaps another time, if you are passing by there again...

@Lyn I have Amistad, I have a real fondness for them too. I have managed to over winter one in the border but took cuttings just in case and they have done really well so just potting them in bigger pots. I must try some other varieties they are beautiful.

@Marlorena thank you for replying.  I shall do just that and get some more photos.  Whatever it is it has had a big impression on me so will make the effort.

I’ve got the Black and Blue, very similar to Amistad, easy to take cuttings. Once you get bitten by the Salvia bug you’ll want them all. I have sown lots of Salvia seeds this year some are Veronica, some Agastache all a bit similar.
