Biofreak sorry to hear about Blue , hope rest of animal tribe are ok
Holding back with planting at the moment , as Winter is giving us a final blast Went down to minus 4-9 last night Had to put fleece on pots in greenhouse again
Did a walk with local U3A this morning and had 2 snow showers but soon melted Also a Hunt rode past us , do they still do Fox hunting with hounds in France ?
Still digging up carrots 🥕 & parsnips at allotment and purple sprouting broccoli still producing
In-fact sitting in garden room and it’s started snowing again but it not sticking
There is hunting with hounds @GWRS but not in all regions and mostly in forests and for stags. Most hunting is on foot with guns and for deer and wild boar.
No PSB here or any brassicas as the summer and autumn heats and droughts made them too small and weak to cope with winter. Never mind, I'll be swoing some PSB at the weekend.

Thank goodness hunting stops 11March and Fishing starts... it's all go here!!! No Boar where I am now but there have been two sitings of wolf and lynx (In Normandy??!!,) Definitely in Alsace
We've seen wild boar here @biofreak when driving home late at night and also a group with piglets one spring when we were out walking the dogs. We also have roe deer and foxes in local fields and woodland.

I used crystalised primroses to decorate my daughter's wedding cake. I also used pressed primroses in the wedding photo album. My primroses are in full flower right now, the flowers all seem particularly large this year.
Hi Everyone..at last I can see!!!! After two super Garden Fairs I returned home with lots of goodies..started to plant out new roses and speared my left eye in Budlea...still a bit foggy but patch off and no major damage thank goodness..because I have a cateract coming in right eye, I could not drive.read or write. So sorry for silence. Have decided to buy a pair of DIY safety goggles. No one around to rescue me if I do something stupid again. Anyway I bought a beautiful David Austin The Pilgrim Rose in memory of O/H and have planted out some new Summer flowering bulbs and on the veg front Hérault Mange Tous Peas. Kelvedon Wonder Peas and already had three meals off the Asparagus Bed!! I had no idea how good it was fresh, very proud of myself. Potatoes were due to go in this week but Lilac not in flower yet so holding off. Broad Beans are flowering well in poly tunnel..I shall definitely sow them again in there for crops in the Spring/early Summer. On the weather front April continues my Ch like March with windy periods particularly 13-19th. 20-26th sees temperatures rising and a dry period (Good sign for me at next Fair in Brittany) 27-30th getting progressively hotter but wind and rain not far away.
Will stop now as eye aching. Apologies again have a lovely Easter. I have put my name on the Waiting List for a Rescue Spanish Greyhound (Galgo).. dreadful not having a dog.
Great to hear from you thanks for update. My Asparagus is just beginning to show, but I have not picked any yet. I'm not ready for spud planting either, mostly because I have spent weeks trying to get the old Asparagus and strawberry beds dug and cleared, they were both full of every pernicious weed you can get. Glad you are OK now, yes it takes a scare like that to pull us up to be more careful. 😉
Glad you're OK now @biofreak and good move buying googles. When can you get the cataract done?
I've always been a cat person but we got our first dog just over 15 years ago and the 2nd 3 years later and I wouldn't be without them now. They celebrated their 16th and 14th birthdays on the 1st so getting old now and a bit arthritic but still young at heart and in good nick.
Didn't get around to sowing broad beans this year thanks to the slipped disk but the onions and garlic are looking good and the tomato and chilli seedlings are growing well. I have brassica, rocket and chervil seedlings coming on and lots of sunflowers plus some spring onions and courgettes. Much better than last year when I sued compost form France Rurale and almost nothing germinated. This year I have professional grade seed compost form a friend in L'Asphodèle, our gardening club.
Off to prune roses now and make a "figure" from our old Xmas tree, two lampshade frames and a lot of greenery - déco for the plant fair nxt week if it works.
