Watering on the Allotments has been the dominant activity at this time of year for the past 3years. I  was watering maincrop potatoes today (as well as everything else), it occurred to me my father would never have watered potatoes it wasn't needed.  My raspberries and loganberries are over already,  a lot of the loganberries had just dried up.

Here's the latest update for lunar dates.   Are you OK @biofreak?  Haven't heard form you in a while.

We are in a period of descending moon until Wednesday 10th of August so a good period for sowing, planting, transplanting, pruning, taking cuttings, splitting, layering and fertilising but always taking into account the strength of the sun and the levels of moisture or drought in your area.

Tuesday 26th is a flower day but also a non gardening day until 16h21 as the moon was apogee at 11h21.  The moon stays in Gemini till 7h58 on the 28th when it moves into Cancer – leaves – until 15h40 on Friday 29th.

Then it stays in Leo – fruits and seeds – until 17h51 on Monday August 1st when it moves into Virgo – roots – until 15h01 on Friday 5th of August when it moves into Libra – flowers.  There is a node at 21h30 so no gardening for 5 hours either side.

Saturday 6th is still Libra but then we have the moon in Scorpio – leaves - on the 7th and 8th.

On the 9th and 10th, the moon moves into Sagittarius but is perigee at 18h14 on the 10th so no gardening for 5 hours either side.

Wednesday 10th sees the moon ascending again and that’s the start of a good period for sowing, harvesting and grafting.

All times are BST so add an hour if you’re in Europe.

    Hi Everyone
So glad you are on the mend Obelixx and I'm sorry for going quiet. Next door neighbour decided to have a bonfire, burning long grass he could not be bothered to mow ...We were at Farmer's Market and came home to find our Pine Trees and  outbuildings Inc. Garden Shed. Trailer. Lawnmower . Garden tools. Wheelbarrows and many other treasures all on fire. Took 8 firemen to put it out. They were furious .. apparently because the hedge was green, he did not think the fire would travel far!! Have spent last couple of weeks sorting out Insurance etc as a mixture of home and business items lost. Poor dog had to be rushed to vet with burnt paw from flying cinders...cats OK. House just about OK but nearly caught on Terrace.
The only bonus was that the firemen refilled all my water barrels which were empty and they watered the flowerbeds and the potager in case the fire started up again!
The garden still looks good despite our dry spell. Keeps trying to rain but only a dribble. Third Crop Broad Beans doing well. Have not watered potatoes as when I started to lift them, found really good crop. Allotment Boy try Kelvedon Wonder peas, I find they don't get mildew and set really quickly.
The  Lunar Weather Predictions for August is very hot between 1st-17th with storms in the North. Between 18th-26th Windy and 27th-31st globally hot ans sunny but with risk of violent storms mainly in the South.
Now is a good time to take cuttings from geraniums choosing a Flower Day but excluding the 22nd as Moon apogée. On Root Days between 1st and 5th prepare the soil to sow Onions on 19th-21st August. Make sure you choose a spot where you have not grown Beans or Peas or freshly manured as too much Nitrogen for Onions there. On the Flower Days start planting Autumn Bulbs and divide Iris and Day Lilies. On Leaf Days prepare the bare areas on your lawns for fresh sowing in September. Let weeds germinate there until 3-4th Sept and then rake out (called a false sowing) and replace with grass seed.
Have a quick look around the Seeds for sale in the Garden Centres. It's not too late to choose some new varieties of Turnips or Winter Radish to test out in your Potager from 11th August.
I have been concentrating on making my Flower Jellies and now sell 5 varieties with the favourites being Rose & Strawberry and Peach & Lavender. Started Mimosa this morning, which I shall mix with Blackberries. Looking forward to the Autumn Garden Fairs starting end August. Need to buy more Roses!
    Happy Gardening.

@biofreak sorry to read about your fire ,hope the dogs OK
Will the authorities take action against him
Thanks for update , however,  currently cruising around uk , do wonder what allotment and garden will be like when we get back ?

That sounds appalling @biofreak.  I hope you both are OK and all the critters too.  I trust his insurance will cough up for lovely new sheds and everything else his fire consumed or damaged.   What an idiot!  I hope you get it all cleared up and sorted out soon.

We are being very careful here - eg no BBQs - as the grass is tinder dry and so is the undergrowth in hedgerows and lanes.

Thanks everyone..Dog fine now and Insurance Company ready to do battle when we receive the Fireman's Report which will list all items plus photos. Have not seen any sign of neighbour!! No, no steps taken here by authorities unless arson (which rarely happens) Just a good talking to.
Made Rose & Hibiscus Jelly this afternoon..smells lovely..quite proud of myself! Found Hibiscus in full bloom at Market yesterday so bought two. This variety thrives besides ponds ..called Hibiscus du Marais Obelixx. Now placed in Bog Garden still in pots but will plant them this weekend. Gladioli now in Flower and French Beans just about ready to crop for first meal..I love 'firsts' Even if it is half of something like the first 🍅 Tomato each! Do you have a favourite? Runner Beans coming along nicely and Mesclun doing well in shady spot.

    Hi everyone
With the Autumn Garden Fairs starting this weekend I have spent little time in the garden apart from giving poorer producers Comfrey and Nettle Tea which perked them up no end. A spot of rain at the end of last week cheered up the Jerusalem Artichokes and whilst the Runner Beans have been very sliw in podding..the potatoes planyed in a shadiet spit than usual, mainly because i had a gap there where the Buddleia throws shade have been excellent. The 24/25 and 26th August is a good time to give hedges añd topiary a final cut, with the Moon descending in front of Cancer and Scorpio. Don't forget to plant out the last of the Winter Cabbages..or indeed any Brassicas on the 25th which is a good Leaf Day. Little green caterpillars have appeared on my Romanesco..they are devils to spot but have ended up in the Snack Shack for my 14baby Sparrows (now lager louts pushing and shoving for food) We counted 15 the other week but saw a Sparrowhawk shoot out of the hedge clasping one the other evening. Never seen that before. With the Moon apogée today and tomorrow I shall continue to stay in the Kitchen making Violet Cakes and Rose 🌹 Petal Jelly as we have a couple of Flower Days and I have started baking and jam making  according to the Moon as as a new project. Made Carrot Cakes yesterday as Root Day. Project this weekend is to buy some more Roses. O/H wants to lose more lawn do I shall put a new Rose Bed in and add comestible Flowers for harvest next Spring for Cake Decorating and Flower Jellies. The Hollyhock worked well and I made Hibiscus last week and Mimosa. Wonderful colours on our stand at the Farmers Market. The last Summer Markets this week as French children go back to 🏫 school on Monday. Hope al is well with you all.
    Happy Gardening.

    Hello , thanks for update
Have been cutting hedges and pruning tree at home
    Everything seems early this year
O/H cut leaves of greenhouse tomatoes and cleared out cucumbers 🥒

Question , we had a few cucumbers go yellow ( not nice to eat ) and wondered if it was the sun or the extreme heat ie Lincolnshire was getting record temperature of 40 degrees plus , have you come across this before ?

Most of the lawn has now turned green with some rain and more rain forecast from this Saturday

Enjoy the Autumn Fairs , take care
