    Hi Everyone
Sorry for silence. So many Garden Fairs (The last of my Season this weekend coming in Le Havre) and preparing the garden for my absence in October. My cousin in Canada says I will have timed my visit just right for The Fall. Plans to take me around some nice Parks apart from Niagara Lake and the Falls.
The Lunar weather for October predicts colder wet and windy. Hardly that at the moment..it's glorious, and yes I have strawberries (a bit bland this year) and more raspberries coming along. Tomatoes have finished and the last Ridge Cucumber 🥒 is awaiting preparation tonight with a nice piece of Salmon. I have at long last bought a new cover for the Polytunnel. Just have to manhandle it on now by myself. They're really heavy!! Dogs off and away to holiday home for three weeks this weekend. Cats will be pleased! They do get on really well but peace will reign for awhile with no racing and barking around the garden. Best toy in the world.....Fresh Corn Cob! The only one stripped from my Potager. Will fence it off next Season. More soil on lawn than in raised beds!! My dogs are overkeen gardeners!
So colder nights predicted with mild Weather 5-10th
15-23rd Springlike with bright days but rain in parts. Windy
24-26th No Rain but cold winds
27-31st Strong winds and possibly snow on high ground. Getting colder.
Eclipse of the Sun 14th October and Eclipse of the Moon on the 28th hence the variable weather.
Now is the time to sow Winter Spinach and pop in Chicory Plants. Otherwise it is still Seed gathering time and last Harvests. I have tried Beans out of Runner Pods but found them mealy. I prefer to leave old pods on the plants to age and split then allow the seeds to fall onto the soil for next year.covering them with compost and marking area with bean sticks .I have also taken to just cutting Beans down and not uprooting them. They will come again next season.. promise! Have done this successfully for four years now.
The 16/17th are good days for planting Bulbs. I have moved some Iris to my Gravel Bed and thought I would pop some crocus in. All other bulbs this year are going in Pots to cheer the view from my lounge and bedroom window. Are you trying any new bulbs this year? Suggestions always 🤗 welcome. Is anyone watching the series about Planets etc with Tom Peake?
If possible Obelixx, please can you keep everyone up to date from 16th -30th October whilst I am off on my travels. Hope to learn new things as my Canadian cousins are keen gardeners.
    Happy Gardening.

Bio freak , hope the last fair goes well

I'm sure you will have a great holiday in Canada 🇨🇦 , we went to the other side a great holiday
Your weather predictions have been fairly accurate so far , with a week’s reasonable weather  to come , hoping to finish the greenhouse off and carry on tidying up garden & allotment

Hi @biofreak.  Hope you have a great time in Canada.

It's still warm and sunny here with temps in the mid to high 20s in the pm.   No rain due till the 12th.  It will be welcome, especially if as generous as forecast, but then we go dry again.

I actually did some gardening on Monday - first since the new knee - with OH helping to weed front of house and then transfer my "nursery" of pots from the back terrace to front of house so they get sunshine again.  Busy with indoor stuff and physio since then but next job is sorting out the other "nursery" in the roofless barn and clearing out the tomato plants ready for sowing broad beans.   I might try some peas too as it's too dry here for spring sowings to produce peas.

Happy to do the calendar form the 16th.  Hope the felines and canines cope well with your absence and that you're ready for a lot of bouncing when you return.

Thanks for best wishes, and thank you for taking the reins Obelixx. Sure I'm going to come back with lots of new ideas. Last week-end at Le Havre (Château  d'Orcher)saw me buying lots of plants as Last Fair of the Season for me. The Bulbsmen go on until Xmas! Spent all today tying down new polytunnel  roof. Tidying away Bean Sticks and sowing Broad Beans in polystyrène boxes in polytunnel as per this time last year. Bought bargain pack of 40 assorted big Narcissi to pop in lawn on my return, thus making existing Spring drift more effective. I usually add a few each year. Weather prédictions serm to be planning out. Will give you November when I return 29th October.  So off tomorrow to Paris 3hr train journey then flying out to Toronto Monday. 8hr trip. Leave 1pm arrive 3.15pm..can't get my brain round that one!! Anyway take care of yourselves and Happy Gardening.

    Lunar gardening calendar update:-

Wed 18 and Thurs 19 are leaf days so good for planting and transplanting.  Descending moon so good for spreading muck, manure and compost to improve the soil.

Fri 20th to Sun 22nd at 12:18 are fruit days with an ascending moon from the 21st.

The rest of Sunday is roots and then we get flower days until 6pm on Wednesday and then we're back to leaf days until Saturday 28th.

My calendar doesn't do weather but my local forecast is for 2 or 3 days of rains and showers adding up to a whole 2 inches.   Whoopee!  I'll believe it when I see it but, just in case, OH has taken the nets off the brassicas so they get as wet as possible.

Ascending moon up to and including Thurs 2nd – good days for harvesting fruits, stems and leaves as well as for sowing seeds on appropriate days.

Saturday 28th has a node at 4:14 so no gardening till 5 hours later.   It’s a leaf day but changes to fruit on Sunday 29th.   Monday 30th to Wednesday 1st are root days so I shall be planting garlic and shallots.

Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd are flower days and from the 3rd the moon is descending again so good days for pruning, transplanting, lifting and dividing on appropriate days.

Saturday 4th from 7:21 and Sunday 5th up to 15:16 are leaf days and then the moon moves into a fire sign again and that’s fruit.

We’ve had more rain than originally forecast and more is to come so the ground should finally be easier to weed and prepare for planting crops such as garlic, shallots, winter cabbages and sowing broad beans.   It’s ridiculously warm still at night so the dahlias are still flowering and the chillies in the polytunnel have set new flowers and are still fruiting well.

Another 110cms of rain expected in the next 10 days and temps staying in double figures night and day.   Suits me as the citrus plants and tender fuchsias are still enjoying themselves outside.

    Oberlix , thanks for update
We have had a huge amount of rain , stream at side of house has never been higher and has flooded some gardens and centre of Village
As a precaution put sand bags in front of garage and side of house

Went to allotment today , pleased to say it was ok , hoping plant garlic & winter onions tomorrow
Normally put shallots in now but with climate change will plant them next year  to see how they grow , as there have been very poor for the last couple of year

Hi @GWRS - I managed to perpare the bed and get the garlid planted on Tuesday but far too wet and woolly out there on Wednesday so the shallots will have to wait till next Tuesday which is another root day.

It's horrid out there at the mo but if we get a break I shall go and sow some Swiss chard tomorrow.

Other than that @biofreak should be back now, in time, I hope, to have been able to protect her garden from the storms.   Ciaran is still active in her area and Domingo will arrive tomorrow night with winds a bit less strong but trees and structures already weakened so more vulnerable.
