Is this a Viticella Madame Julia Correvon, an Etoile Viollette or  Comtesse de Bouchard?  I have lost the label, the flowers are huge, although the plant is quiet spindly. It is in flower now - each one measures approx 6 inches across. Thankyou.

Not EV, and  C de B is paler I think, so most likely Julia.
It seems early for it, but I expect you're a fair bit ahead of us up here, GD  :)

Should have asked - is it definitely one of those three?

Agree with Fairy. EV is purple and the Comtesse is a much paler pink. I don't have a Julia, but you can definitely eliminate the other two possibilities.

I know it is not Mme Julia Correvon just by the petals.
Is the colour red to start with?
And are the stamens red tipped?
Sorry not being rude about your photography skills just some times the camera and light does not show the "true" colour.
And what colour does the older flower fade to?
    Pink, purple or red fade?
    Take a look at Westerplatte.

The colours on the Hull site are a little darker but I wondered as your pic is in bright sunlight. Your stamens might be as dark , only me guessing.
My mum now has my old Westerplatte but it is flowering now.
After a while the flowers fade to a lighter red with a bright purpley pink tone.

Snap Rubytoo.  I thought Westerplatte too.  Glorious clem when it's happy but mine struggled in the Belgian garden and I can't see it enjoying life here somehow.

    Could it be Rouge Cardinal?

Another good possibility but smaller flowers I think.

Rouge Cardinal has flowers of 15cm so I sort of went off Guernsey Donkey saying they were that size:
