Scaffolder wit.

Got a couple of scaffolders setting up on my house this morning. About an hour ago one of them complimented me on my garden and said how much he enjoyed gardening. 5 minutes ago he walked past my Wisteria, which is now in full bloom and asked "Do you get many grapes off it?". Bless him!!!

I was walking with my dog a while ago and spotted a couple of guys from Essex & Suffolk Water working on the pavement.
I asked if they were fixing a leak and got the reply, 'no, were fitting a water meter' then he added 'there will probably be a leak by the time we're finished though'

Last summer we had Italian friends visiting. Beppe wandered in from the garden and said he had eaten one of our peas. ‘Are you sure’ we asked because we grow beans but not peas.
    ”Sì, sì,” he insisted.

Turns out he had eaten sweet peas. We googled it and it causes muscle weakness (lathyrus is the unsurprising medical term) and, I added for good measure, stupidity.

I remember the 1999 solar eclipse. It had been trailed in the press for weeks. There were two scaffolders working next door as it progressed towards totality. "What's goin' on there then?" one said. "Dunno, bit weird innit mate, you got that spanner". They must have been the only two people in the country who didn't know what was happening :)

I picked my 9 year old granddaughter up from school yesterday and on the way home the radio played a track by Spice Girls, I turned the radio up and asked her "do you like the Spice Girls"? She answered, "were they like little Mix"? I said "well they were before Little Mix one of them is married to David Beckham", "who's David Beckham"?

Until you get arrested for using your mobile whilst driving, then your fame quotient goes up again - yes you, David B!

I love the borrowed wisdom of builders. After laying a new floor slab a patch in the corner didn’t dry. There must be a pipe leaking under there I said. No, no, its just rain from the mountain. Dug up the corner myself to discover a leaking sewage pipe (lovely). Oh yes, the builder said, thought that might be the problem. A month later, still not dried out. Think we need a dpm under there, I said. No, no, the damp will just go up the walls. A month later, builder said, think we should lay a dmp. Good idea, I said, but what if the damp goes up the walls? Don’t be daft, it won’t do that!

Well my background was construction and design, but that counts for nothing when it comes to builders, @philippa smith2, whatever their nationality. They were Spanish builders, always better and harder-working than the expat variety and they don’t demand endless tea!

We have been in dispute with our builders for a year now, they have been building an extension for us but it isn't watertight. At one stage they thought it might be the rain bouncing off the scaffolding!

Ah, thats a good ‘un, Floralies, the ingenious excuses of builders never ceases to amaze. Just don’t get me started on the rooftop plunge pool we built at our last property  :#
