Good question. Maybe it's doable from windows? But looks too well trained for that.
My grandparents have a huge wisteria, hiding most of a two storey house. They used to do some prunings from windows but they also did harder pruning every 3-5 years using a ladder.
BTW also notice how is it quite common in continental Europe to have large trees close to houses.
..surely it would need scaffolding to do all that.. I mean don't they need pruning twice a year? I think so.. to make sure you get the flowers.. whatever, it seems expertly done..
Lovely picture edhelka. Hope you don't mind me sharing...speaking of pruning and keeping wisteria off windows. This was taken only a week ago of a townhouse near Euston station in London. The trunk like a young tree coming from a basement that’s paved over.
That's a cracking Wisteria for sure, that one is gonna be high maintenance, high being the operative word. We had three until this year, the common coloured one shown here was around the house and got too big and i removed. The other two are on Pergolas and more controllable, we have a white and mottled variety.
Friends of ours have a very old wisteria (30 - 40 years) covering almost the entire house. They do not prune it. I kept questioning in disbelief, but no, they don't prune. They do, however, lean out of all the windows and cut back enough so that they can see out of them. They don't recall what time of year they do this - "just when they grow over the windows... <which they say with a shrug>"
