Homebase do a conifer and shrub feed https://www.homebase.co.uk/conifer-and-shrub-feed-2-5kg_p412867 But if you don't have a Homebase nearby, you can have a look in a Garden Centre, they can help. As has been said above, conifers do go brown in the middle, so it's not necessarily a sign that they are dying.

That’s great thank you, will get some next week. We have a Homebase near by, yes I know but they were really dark green and yes have had small about of brown years ago but nothing like this and only since been cut. thank you.
Most conifers look brown on the inside so don't worry. I don't think they look too bad. I would give them a feed in the warmer weather and just sit back and relax. No stressing about whether they need to come out or not and the subsequent cost! Give them to the end of the year before you make any decision. I'm sure they will green up a bit and put on new growth.
I know but I am wish I wasn’t but did you see the second picture? What type of feed? And the start of summer? So wait till September? I just hope they will do cross fingers and toes. thank you.
Are you in the UK? By 'warmer weather I mean end April/May time which is our Spring.

Yes I am in the uk, sorry I meant feed April to May and by end of the season September or October see how they are.
Reading the above posts , there is some good advice here !
It is perfectly normal for conifers like these to go brown in the centres ; this is simply a result of inner growth being 'shaded-out' by the outer new growth .
If you allow the living tissue on the outsides to slowly interweave , the brown parts will slowly become obscured .
Do not trim too hard as brown-wood on these will not regenerate . The tops will (as above) slowly fill-in utilising the topmost side-growth . It will take time but give them a chance .
You're probably not particularly interested , but they seem to be Chamaecyparis lawsoniana (Lawson Cypress) , probably the cultivar commonly planted years ago known as 'Pembury Blue' . They maintain their colour well in a bright position .

Hello yes some very good advice I appreciate it i think it’s the shock of seeing the lovely trees that were bright green blue in colour go brown so much after been cut. they had been cut before but not like this and they didn’t go as brown from the bottom up. so the first few trees that are very brown will not grow again? on some of the trees there is pink buds so those ones hopefully ok? the thing was my husband did trim hard and that’s the result. oh yes I am interested and I just found the invoice and they are Lawson Cyprus,a lady said about a feed from Homebase so we will get that and see how things go. thank you.
Looking at the photos again , there is every chance the lower parts will eventually 'grow-over' and become less obvious .
The pink-buds are probably the final stages
of the male flowers that appear in late March and drop off in late April . Then you should see female flowers appearing . These will be about 5mm across and of a slate-blue colour.
Your husband must have inadvertently gone slightly too deep and cut off what would have been some of the flowering stems . This will have no long-term detrimental value .

Fingers crossed and again 'give them a chance'
Oh I really hope so as had them so long, I love them, right I see yes on some of them are pink buds but the very brown ones I can’t see any and other side of the hedge it’s the same but yellow ones. never seen the pink buds or yellow buds before. yes he did he said he won’t go near them now and wish he had touched them, so hopefully with all the advice here and we are getting the fertiliser today and see what mulch to buy for them it will help cross fingers and toes. i will keep an eye on them and see how they go. thank you so very much and everyone on here.
