@Busy-Lizzie Got you! Very true! Having never grown either, guess we'll soon find out how much I love the colour combination then if @B3 doesn't tempt me with this very pretty photo of his deep purple clematis which I would guess is 'Étoile Violette'?
And yes @B3 I most definitely sight the Arthur leaves. So fine!!!
Yes as BL says, it's your garden and as long as you are happy with it... we've all got plants in the wrong places I imagine, everyone does it, my garden is full of mistakes..
..this is the only photo I have of clematis 'Piilu'... I can see what you mean about the yellow stamens.. I hadn't noticed these before if I'm honest.. yes I think they look nice.. maybe there's enough white in the clematis to pass muster so to speak... but your decision on that one... it does flower all the way down to the base.. 'Piilu' is noted for that...
..this is 'Mme. Julia Correvon' which also has nice yellow stamens... no reason why you can't add something like this into the mix too..
..happy gardening... and nice to talk to you today...
@Marlorena Oh what lovely photos . I think I might just already be in love with this 'Mme. Julia Correvon'. Such gorgeous colour! And that 'Piilu' is as gorgeous as I imagined it. I didn't know about the flowering to the base so that's a pleasant surprise there.
It's been lovely speaking with you today as well and thank you so much once again!
I've got a clematis piilu MrsDee, it's growing up through a lilac bush and seems to do quite well. Not the most vigorous but it was in the reduced section at the GC and looked sorry for itself so I took pity.
I think 2 metres high is what you can expect. I think a plant with a good number of stems should cover most of a 6'x6' panel. When I say not that vigorous I mean in comparison to a Montana
So I have decided to pair my Arthur Bell rose with Clematis President and Clematis multi-blue in the end instead of the Piilu (I have now planted up the Piilu along a different fence to shine on it's own).
@MarlorenaI will like another rose that would compliment my Arthur Bell and the blue-purple clematis. Any suggestions please?

I'll keep you posted!
Will it cover a single normal fence panel seeing as you said it's not that vogorour?
