Well the rose leaves are ok for now, might not survive the next few days! Here’s a bit of perennial torture to keep you going, @B3 - the bottom one was a healthy, flowering geranium rozanne this morning...

Sorry about your roses Nollie... not many can stand that kind of heat unscathed .. perhaps you might have to rethink what kind of roses and companion plants you grow there...

@Hazyb .. thanks for the picture... very strange.. the foliage and growth habit are correct but I've not seen it so dark pink as that before... early blooms on new roses can be untypical and misleading... so we shall wait and see if they lighten up, because this rose is a light blush pink, not dark pink..  'Scepter'd Isle' has a very strong scent.. see if yours has one..

We had 28°C today. First swim in the sea :) the water was maybe 14° but ok in combination with the heat.
Everything is flowering like mad. My Ebb tide opened today completely burgundy coloured (and I need and want it purple). I've been taking photos but will post later, after the weekend, because we have my in-laws visiting. They are from Slovakia and it feels very pleasant here to them (it was 37° today in Bratislava).

Hi Marlorena, yes I am having a complete rethink, and sadly most of the DA’s will have to go. The clue is in the name really, English roses - duh! Whilst this weather is hopefully a freak, I would be better to choose a half dozen of the most disease/sun/heavy rain resistant roses. Those perennials above are in rocky outcrops and can usually cope, but the stone acts as a heat sink, so its sedums and euphorbias for them!

That is such a shame, @ Nollie after all your hard work in selecting and planting recently. It must be heartbreaking to watch cherished plants die in the head - not something we normally experience here in the UK. I am just beginning to rethink some of my perennial planting, some plants that need moisture are going to be replaced soon.

@Marlorena they are changing colour already and are less pink and more full this morning.

I had a wee dander around the garden last night and they had closed up into a cup/bowl shape.

They do have a nice scent but I wouldn’t call it strong.

When I take a close up they seem darker so maybe it is my iPhone? To me it seems more salmony pink today.

Munstead Wood looking good around the washing line pole. Buds in the background belong to Sexy Rexy.

Thanks for your commiserations @Lizzie27. The thing is, I spent ages researching and choosing heat and drought-tolerant perennials, but it simply never occurred to me that I ought to have done the same with roses! I was also ignorant of the fact that they would struggle with my humidity and heavy summer downpours. We live and learn.
