Acer bloodgood dying back

Hi I have a large Acer bloodgood that is only getting new buds on about a quarter of it's branches . Some of the branches are grey and look dead. Could this be because of last year's scorching summer .any ideas?

I get the odd few grey dead branches which I just trim off.How long have you had it x

Had it about 4yrs it was gorgeous but I really fear for it it really doesn't look well at all

I had the same problem. They seem to be very short lived. Ours did really well for 3 or 4 years and then gave up.

On dear like I said I have a few i have to do every year.Are they only half way up the stems. I've had mine 10 years at guess.I will take photo of mine with the dead stems on.I love them so easy

Hmm I think it might of had it ,although I have others that are fine but they are in pots .

I have 2 in pots and 2 in the ground the later are the best a lot bigger

I have 3 in pots they are fine and a large red emperor in the ground which is also ok it's just the bloodgood that's copped it
