  • Why no veg? I helped at my last school and it was all veg, fruit,  even toms. Surely flowers are more likely to cause problems as they could be ingested or cause skin reactions.🤔
Health and safety reasons they will not allow vegetables be grown in the tyres.

Yes I've been in the same school for 22 years and the kids make the job. Between school and nursery they are 230 kids some things that have happened and they say just make you laugh.
  • I am going to build a wooden bedding unit to grow vegetables
but as the area hasn't be looked after for years I have a big task on my hands.
Once I have sorted out the tyres and made the place more presentable
I will build the bedding unit and start growing
but as I said Iv'e paid a lot of money from my own pocket in bulbs and tubers
Iv'e also sponsored  a child to go on summer camp this year
CANT DO IT ALL ON A PENSION BUT I TRY

Think your doing a great job and am sure the kids and school will really glad of your help and hard work to get it up and running.

It's a pity no one else is willing to help you @coppersend, but the schools/playschools haven't the funds so need community help like yours. Good job.

Its a brilliant School and they are so caring.

You won't get much thanks unfortunately for working in the background. I do it in my own garden for my own grandchildren, so I am not nearly as good as you. It's nice to read what people like you and Andy do.

There must be local gardeners who would gladly donate some seeds, bulbs or plants. I know I could. Has there been an appeal to all the school parents? Is there a local horticultural society? WI? Could you post an appeal on a local Facebook site or Freegle?  Could you ask a local garden centre or supermarket for a donation of, say, some bedding plants?

Yes that could be done @Green Magpie but it needs someone willing to give up time to organize things, not an easy thing to find.
  • Is there a PTA or School Committee who could offer some help perhaps, or would it be worth pinning a message on the notice board to make people aware that you would like some money/assistance/or donations of anything gardening perhaps?
