    If it has fine, shallow roots it could be an annual willowherb.  But they pretend to be all sorts of things, so you might want to hold your fire until it comes up towards flowering, when you'll be sure.
    Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Yeah ForTheBees, willow herb was mentioned.
    Liriodendron, knocking down the flowers to prevent reseeding might be enough so.
  • Why not sow some yellow rattle  it's an annual  but seeds itself.  They are parasitic on grasses and reduce their vigor so they don't out compete the wild flowers?
  • Yeah, good idea and its in the seed mix. Unfortunately the year has been very mild so the yellow rattle may not appear. I gather that it needs a hard winter to get it going.
