You will need to do a lot more reading than just asking on here if you want to change to an diet which is unnatural for humans. If you are sure this is the right move for you - good luck.
if everyone became vegan tomorrow, the following day virtually every cow, pig, goat, chicken, sheep etc etc on the planet would be slaughtered and it'd all be the vegans' fault.
Yes, and don't believe the hype about cereals feeding humans being more efficient than cereals feeding animals. Humans don't eat grass and most pasture is on land that isn't suitable for crops.

My first instinct is that the poster is hoping to ‘inflame rancorous and unfriendly debate’ ... I hope to be proved wrong but on this matter I intend to keep my own counsel.

harles.mccarthyy123, I have been a vegan for 50 + year. I contracted Polio at the age of 13 when I come out of hospital I could not digest meat (Red, White or fish ) the doctors told my mother I was not to have any of the above. Some years later and a lot of discomfort I was told I had IBS but really as it turned out I also am Lactose intolerant as well. Now on a vegan diet I am well for the first time in years. If you are able to see a dietitian I would advise you do so. I eat a very wide variety of fruit and veg which I also eat raw nuts, pulses. Do not go down the road of processed food, cook for yourself and you might want to consider vitamin tablets but do read the label.
I would however suggest you look for a vegan website as this after all is a gardening website unless of course you would like information on how to grow fruit, veg or flowers then I sure members would be able to advise.
So to conclude from the age of 13 yrs till my present age of 73 yrs I have not had any more illness than meat and dairy eaters other than being wrongly diagnosed and I'm not thin or skinny I am at a good and healthy weight.
That's good news Dee and glad it works for you but I can't tell you how many people I know who haven't a clue about balanced nutrition whether omnivore, vegetarian or vegan and heaven help me when I meet a "vegetarian" who eats fish and/or poultry.

I have also seen a lot of ill vegetarians and vegans. Also it seems to be an excuse for anorexics as well.(It is more acceptable to say "I don't eat meat etc, than to say I am on a diet because at a size 6 I don't think I am thin enough. ) I think with the addition of B12(animal sources only), and a lot of work, it is possible to have a balanced diet. However I agree with Punkdoc and others, we have evolved as omnivores and that is what we usually thrive on. It is not sufficient to just stop eating certain foods. You will have to work hard at it to get a nutritionally complete diet.
No pansyface, being in an Iron lung was not a barrel of laughs but as my dear Dad said to me it's not killed you so make the most of what you have.
fidgetbones don't get me wrong those who eat meat and dairy produce have a right to there preferences and those of us vegan for what ever reason we have chosen to be so also have a right. I don't know if I would have chosen to be a vegan or not but I am and have been almost all of my life for health reason.
as a veggie (borderline vegan) I remember all those same silly comments from the Docs and staff at the surgery I worked at. I reminded them that I was the only person who hadn't had a day's sickness in 5 years
