Garden gate "leaking sap"?
I recently have had a new fence and gate installed my a local tradesman, both using treated wood apparently. The fence looks great, but the gate looks like the attached photos. As you can see, it looks awful, with the white marks on it. To the touch, it's not sticky, but more chalky in texture i'd say. I spoke with the company that fit it, and he said it's sap that the rain has brought out of the wood. I am in no way an expert, but this sounds crazy to me. Sap is sticky, this is not, and my fence doesn't have the same issue.
Does anyone know what this might actually be, or is he right?

I've had it on odd pieces of timber, but it hasn't caused a problem long term
I've not had it badly warped though, w.edges. Perhaps your lot should have been returned. I don't mind fencing timber being a bit 'off', but if it's really bad, it's not really fit for purpose.
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
