Snake's head fritillary

Just curious here, roughly when do you start to see signs of these poking through the soil?

I mulched quite thickly over where I planted the bulbs in Autumn and think I may have left them a bit late to plant after buying the bulbs- they may have dried out a bit although it was hard to tell as they always seem to look fairly dry anyway.

    Mine not up yet.
    Last year was the first year I had grown them so still hoping I get a repeat performance this year!

    Mine self seed and the baby ones come up earlier. These are showing now but the grown-ups, which will flower, are not showing at all yet.

    I planted two groups  in the lawn. So far just one plant has pushed a spike out. Hopefully  will  get more  x

    They look very pretty growing through grass but the leaves last for months so you can't keep it as lawn. The seedlings are very shallow rooted too and could be plucked out by the mower without your even noticing them.

    I have three or four sprouts just showing today that *might* be fritillaries. I expect to see many more though, so don't worry.

    We planted a hundred in rough grass a couple of years ago. They came up last year, but nothing's showing yet. I'm hoping the long hot summer hasn't done for them.
