You must have the touch, I've tried growing salad leaves in modules but they never seem to take, so now I just leave it ‘till a bit later and sow directly in the ground

I’ve never used modules- usually sow direct but wanted to get a head start under fleece for an early crop. Figured if it gets super cold I will put in pots and have them on the kitchen island- they clearly like it!

It doesn't take long for hellebores to flower from seed, the only thing is that you can’t guarantee the colours, some turn out a dirty white, but I’ve got quite a few that have come out pinks and purples. Worth a try.
Sow them as soon as they are dried and leave outside.

Thanks Lyn! I don’t care about colour really, although I do like the purple and pinks- I’m just glad to see flowers when they come up! Do you hand pollinate or do you just let nature take its course? Normal seed compost/grit- do you cover seed or surface sow?
  • You're right, it never fails to make me smile when the first seeds germinate.  Gardening is good for the soul...

Just leave them to it, they usually self seed very easily, so try to replicate what happens in the wild.  Compost with some grit over is fine.

It certainly is! I’ve had a spring in my step all day!... mind you that could be because I didn’t have any wine last night! 😉
