Decided to sow my tomatoes, cucumbers ... I found my Levington JI seed compost was full of.
I use the compost from the raised beds for my tomato, chilli etc seeds. By the time I can plant them out, the compost heap should be ready so that I can fill up the beds if needed.

I will be visiting my family on Friday for the first time since Covid started. I had promised my niece in 2019 to help in her garden with the weeds. She is a great fan of the Rich Brothers and sent me that link https://www.tygardd.co.uk/.
Her garden is incredible 180x20 meters. The actual space they use is in front of the house with 20x20 meters. There are many weeds - my dad said so - that will keep me busy over the weekend. I will definitely teach the kids how to remove weeds.

    I my garden.

I've just been out before work and did an hour of cutting back last year's perennials.

    I thought it was time.

Everything looks so much neater now and it is giving me lots of ideas as I can now see more spaces that need filling.

A few things I'll move too as I got overexcited last summer and planted a few things too close together.

Been cutting back ivy, clearing out the veg pots/raised bed and adding some FBB.  Lots still to do but getting there now.

Received my first ever mail-ordered plant this morning - Miscanthus 'Starlight' from Knoll Gardens. Amazingly it arrived intact. Really good roots on it. Planted it this afternoon.

Cut back the ivy trying to come through the fences, gave the dogwood a good cut  and took the tops off a few dead bits around the garden. Lovely and sunny here and into double figures temp wise, nice change.
  • No gardening as such. Took the dog for a walk on a beach. Really hard work, the sand is so soft and deep, it was like walking in treacle. We were both tired out when we came home so both went to sleep for a couple of hours. Lovely weather. Too late to go outside when I woke up so sat and sorted out my seed packets, put them into their month of sowing sections in their storage box. Now I have to go through them again and discard what I am not going to grow again. My soil is very gritty, fast-draining and light so am not going to try growing brassicas again. A waste of time and money.
I am going to try some different varieties of medium tomatoes as Gardeners Delight seems to have deteriorated in the last couple of years. Am going to try Cocktail Crush and Indigo Cherry Drops with a plum Big Mama. Has anyone grown any of these successfully?
Wind and rain again today so am going to do some more decorating of my bedroom.

Went to the GC this morning and bought bags of compost, manure & vermiculite. Back at home I potted on my Chillies and then sowed the Maskotka tomatoes that had just arrived in the post.

No time for gardening today but did manage to nip into a garden centre and pick up some imperial fritillaries "in the green" and some very scraggly-looking dryopteris ferns on the cheap and which just need their leaves cutting back. Will plant them all out tomorrow.

Busy day in the spring winter garden. Planted 2 dozen polyanthus, divided 5 candelabra primulas making 25, pruned back and transplanted 2 cornus serberica also taking some cuttings, and weeded the whole bed. We also put in a lot of blubs which had been forgotten about.

Been out for an hour in the drizzle and potted on 3 euphorbia purpurea, 3 alchemilla erythopoda; 3 campanula pers alba.

Potted some Chinese lantern bulbs in pots and a couple of callas.

Also moved a fence panel to where I think I may want a fence putting up (just propped it up to see what it looks like). Next step is to plan the pond area and start digging. Got my fence bloke coming next week to price up my plans.

The sun has just come out so tempted to go back out and do the rest of the potting on but have to go out ☹️
