Sat in the conservatory because the wind was freezing. Finally got around to potting on my onion seedlings. I also sowed a few seeds of aubergines, chilles and leeks. Chillies seem to take forever to germinate.
I beachcombed some branches from a bay tree when walking the dog on a local beach yesterday. I am going to try growing some large cuttings from them. I washed the sand from them and left them soaking in fresh water overnight. I found what I guessed was a daffodil bulb on the same beach a few years ago. I brought it home and planted it. It has flowered every year since. Just a common daffodil, but lovely all the same. There are now 5 clumps of leaves growing so it will be quite a clump soon. Freezing cold wind again today. .
I got a bit more cutting back of last year's old growth done yesterday, as well as pulling out some of the self-sowers that are threatening to swamp other things.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
Pulled out huge clumps of forget me nots which were everywhere and planted up some pots with some spring colour. Garden center was selling off some big primulas and stuff, so treated myself, as usual all they needed was a bit of a tidy up and a good drink.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.
Busy day in the garden today! Thinned out a spirea bush, and pruned the last of my roses and fuchsia. Fed all the roses with slow release granules. Pruned the native hedge and fed part of it until I ran out of blood fish & bone. Cut back all the rest of last year's perennials. Deadheaded and fed potted daffodils that are going over.
Potted on my carnivorous plants in the greenhouse. Pricked out and potted up some more of the snapdragons I sowed in January. Planted out some pulmonaria and a honeysuckle that were delivered last week
Finally, I measured out and noted down gaps in my lawn daffodils so I'll know where to add more bulbs in the autumn.
I've fed 16 roses and 9 clematis, planted 5 primroses, a pot of tete a tete daffodils, a pot of snowdrops and a saxifrage. I've tidied up the gravel slope and cut down 2 erigeron karvenskianos, which were smothering other plants, and pruned fuchsia Delta Sarah. Good to be out in the garden.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Planted my new rose Waltz Time. A bit more cutting back of shrubs. But what has me 😡 is the seed compost. Decided to sow my tomatoes, cucumbers and some Schizanthus , plus a second sowing of Aquilegia. This is what I found my Levington JI seed compost was full of. They are hard unbreakable lumps, and I don't have anything fine enough to sieve out the smaller bits ( plus you can see twigs in there too) It's not a good start to this year's buying of compost, will have to see what the conditions of the rest of the MPC are like later in the season.

And Save all the lumps for the bottom of any big pots
I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
