This is definitely the Year of the Butterfly, never seen so many. Philippa, remember those Hawk Moth caterpillars, completely destroyed two large hardy fuchsias, never saw the going of them or the moths. None this year!
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
I went back to Newport today It wasn't as bad on a Sunday afternoon as it was at rush hour on Friday to be fair. No sex or drugs were involved and I was listening to GQT on the radio which is about as far from rock and roll as it gets. I made a list of all the things I enjoyed about my time there though:
1.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Perhaps I should have mentioned that my hedonistic few months in Newport were in 1971, when I was 19. It's probably a lot more respectable nowadays. As am I.
My missus was down in Newport at the weekend visiting our niece. In her words, the old part of the town is a bit of a sh*t hole but the modern bit isn't bad.
1. Attended my first national eisteddfod on Thursday and the sun shone all day.
2. The Peter Nyssen catalogue arrived yesterday; I'm drooling.
3. Yesterday I acquired nine new plants via Freecycle; mostly ferns which I shall plant around my beech tree, and a drop-dead gorgeous Thalictrum. This is a plant I have never met before, it's breathtaking in its delicacy.
