  • Watching winter watch I was so jealous that the coal tits eat from the hand, have yet to train the robin to do that! At least he comes when I call him, even the Dunnocks have started to come when I call.😁

That was marvellous wasn't it ? You could see Michaela's enjoyment so clearly. I was very envious .
The nearest l have come to that is looking out of the back door just now to see blackbird waiting for his early elevenses!
  • Our robin will take live mealworms from our hand in the breeding season when he's got youngsters to feed ... he doesn't consider other foods are worth the risk, but he loves live mealworms so much he came indoors, perched on the rocking chair and shouted at me when I was a bit slow in meeting his demands :)

Dove, do you breed you’re own mealworms, I always think that theres not  much goodness in the dried ones, they look like an empty shell.  Sometimes I’m almost happy to find a pot of vine weevil.

  • I buy live ones online ... they come in a container with wheat bran which they can live in for quite a while so I keep them in the bottom of the garage fridge and limit the robins to a couple of small handfuls a day.

    Have you tried breeding them?

We've had recommendations for seed here, but it would be great to get a recommendation for a bird seed feeder.
Trying to ensure that the seed just doesn't spill out or get wet would be my two main criteria (as I haven't seen a lot of squirrels about).

@Dovefromabove where do you buy the mealworms from online?
  • I get them via Ama**n ... whichever is the cheapest at the time ...usually either Livefoods or JustGreen.

I noticed a week or so ago that the sunflower hearts came from Bulgaria so thought I'd better stock up just in case!  30kg should last 2-3 months so let's hope B....t will be sorted out by then.
