I think secret garden have finally lost my custom. I'm so fed up with having to email for refunds. This is some of my plants that arrived this morning. The rest were fine but it's not really the point is it? Do you think the pennisetum will bounce back or is it dead?
Guess it depends if you think paying £5.99 for a 9cm pot elsewhere is worth it...
I think I would if it meant the plants were healthy and bushy. It'd really not worth paying £1.99 to £3.99 for the disappointment of dead plants. If I could get to a decent garden centre easily it would be so much better!
This is my lot delivered this morning. They mostly look ok, there is one I am not happy with, as it had the top chopped off by the black plastic packaging.
I am sure I would not choose them in a garden center if I was picking the plants in person. I agree they might not have enough time to grow strong this summer, and they might not survive the winter (???) .... The reason why I keep buying these small plants is that they come within a couple of days, they don't cost too much (but don't always worth the price), and I still don't go anywhere, so the garden center is still out of question sadly....
I think I might email them about the centranthus....
There are so many great mail order plant companies out there, for a little bit more money you can have much nicer plants. I've used them many times before but all the current photos of their deliveries put me off trying them again.
You are right!!! There are a few I love to use, and will have to check if their delivery times are back to normal. I buy all my trees online as well, and very happy with that company too.
The big online plant companies I used before April were a huge disappointment during the lock down with no communication and 10 weeks delivery time... so I was happy with the fast delivery, the great packaging and the customer service The Secret Gardening Club provided. The 20% off and the free delivery is also very tempting.
I had deliveries from them every week, and I am very impressed with the selection they have for shade gardens. I bought many of those plants and they are doing really well, and many of them are big now. So my reasoning is that if I can have a plant for the shady part of my garden for £1.60 and it grows to a decent size in 3-4 weeks then it was a good choice to buy from this company. I have to admit, there were some plants that I had to email about, but up to now it was always sorted.
