Mine are all in black plastic pots. the bigger ones in 20l pots with handles which makes moving them in and out the polytunnel a lot easier.
I bought them from Amazon at £2.50 each.
    Devon.
  • Agapanthus Northern Star is my particular favourite. Cobalt blue with light blue edges
But so many beautiful varieties to pick from and that why is a favourite

This one, Storm Cloud, is unusual in that it is a hardy evergreen variety. It survived the beast from the east unprotected though this winter I have just popped a fleece over it to give it a little protection from the frosts forecast for the week ahead. The pots from Italian Terrace in Suffolk are too heavy to move.

    phantom is another beauty.
I think I might have bought a strawberry ice last year. Or did I just comment on the slightly odd name?
    Devon.
  • Too many choices, btw do bees like them?

@pugslovesun bees adore agapanthus, they always seem to visit blue/ purple hued flowers first in my garden.  My garden is buzzing in July and August with visiting bees and hoverflies.
Agapanthus are so garden worthy. Fresh green foliage in spring. Attractive developing flower heads. Gorgeous blooms then attractive seedheads amongst still fresh looking foliage. The green seedheads look good with cut flowers, especially dahlia and bright zinnia flowers. Or let a couple seedheads ripen fully and save your own seed to grow your own .

I've been inspired by all these wonderful agapanthus pics! I have two in large pots that have done wonderfully over the years (not sure which ones, maybe African Skies, they were bought long before I got interested in actually varieties of plants!), and some Black Pantha, Purple Cloud and Northern Star in beds planted recently. I have now decided to buy three more for pots on the patio. All your recommendations and comments on this thread have been very helpful... I have now ordered Liam's Lilac, Midnight Star (Navy Blue) and Arctic Star from Fairweathers online. I chose these mainly because they had the larger size in stock, they are fully hardy, and the three colours will hopefully contrast nicely with each other. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread!

Great choices there @JanieB, I have purple cloud too, a really sumptuous colour. They should give a beautiful display together. Liams Lilac always gets a wow from family and friends , they didn't realise agapanthus could come in that colour . I love my white agapanthus, the flowers really glow at dusk as the light is fading.
