Get rid of what you can. Keep an eye on it and treat any new leaves with SBK as I described earlier ... give it time and the poison will travel back to the roots and kill them. Patience is what is needed at that stage, but it works.

Of course that’s not to say I don’t appreciate ivy as it’s important for wildlife (berries for birds, flowers for insects and cover for small birds and mammals) but not when it’s damaging a wall.

As well as walls, damage can be done to trees. I have a Hawthorne that is being choked by next doors ivy. I have cut back all on my side, but it is covering their shed on their side and getting to the tree beyond my reach. Ivy is a pain.
