How do I stop grey squirrels from bird feeder

Hello,

A couple of grey squirrels are extremely naughty, they bully the birds and make a mess, I need to find a way to stop them.they walk up on the fence and eat all the bird feed while dropping half of it on the ground. I can't move the bird feeder because that's the only patch of soil I have which obsorbs the bird poo.

It might be illegal and I thought about it, it may fall into my neighbors garden

Hi Damhah. If you google Squirrel Baffles you might find something that will be of use to you.

My parents have one and it works great, but in my situation it  goes on the fence and jumps straight onto the feeders
  • @Fairygirl has made a ‘cage’ to fit over her feeders which keeps the squirrels and pigeons off the feeders ... if she sees this thread she may have an idea of how you could make something similar.

You can buy traps, but once they're caught, you are legally obliged to kill them humanely. A clean shot to the head is deemed "humane"
You can not take them and release them elsewhere, that's illegal.

The parakeets can't get to the feed if i use a cage.

Will see if I can buy some traps

before folk throw their hands up in horror at the killing of  ( alien species ) grey squirrels, they should ask when they last saw one of our native RED squirrels.

I don't have an air rifle, I wonder if I trap it, put it in the heavy bag and corner it. Then a quick blow to the head would be humane?

I'm sure if you google " humane killing of squirrels" or some such thing, you'll find some info there.
