The solstice is today, the 21st, not the 22nd. It’s at 22.23 to be precise. Next year it will be on the 22nd at 04.19.

11:23 here and a full moon and ameteor shower expected all at once.  I shall go and see but suspect it's too cloudy to see anything.  Been very grey and wet and wild all day.

The meteors will be radiating out from the little bear. Ursa Minor.

I don’t really understand the two of the posts above. In Leicester the latest sunrise in the year is on December 31st when it is at 8.16 am. A week or so later it is at 8.10 am.

Latest sunrise and earliest sunset do not coincide with the shortest day because the Sun does not move around the sky at a uniform speed. In Autumn the Sun moves southward, so its eastward motion is less, then in Winter it catches up. As a result the earliest sunset is about ten days before the solstice, and latest sunrise is about ten days later.

Alan, the more you try to learn, the harder it becomes to understand, think I should have chosen gardening for a hobby😀

Got up at 1.15am this morning to look for meteors, perfect time, thick clouds, fog and piddling down!  Always the same when there’s a showing, although I did see last months, about 5 in an hour.
