I'm beginning to think that l may have seen everything now......
  • I hang my feeders on a long thin wire so they cant climb down it I also put some hot chilli powder in the seed mix. The birds are unaffected the squirrels (& rats for that matter) will not even eat the spillage!

I’m not sure what chilli powder could do to birds guts.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • I have enough trouble with the blackbirds digging up bulbs/plants and throwing soil around. 🙄
  • I have that problem too along with the squirrel....... isn't wildlife wonderful ( a blooming nuisance at times though!!!)

  • We have two that squabble constantly over territory. I think we are on the front line. They make a hell of a racket when they're going at it. When they aren't fighting whichever one is occupying the front line salient tends to bury nuts behind the Choisya and under the Magnolia, and occasionally hangs upside down from the branches to nibble on a fat ball.

If the feeders are on poles try greasing the pole to deter them, that's what we did they didn't return.
  • I do love my garden birds yorkshirerose but sometimes..... 🙄😁

I don't think it has any adverse effect. In parts of the USA they call chilli peppers Bird peppers because the birds seek them out to eat them, apparently growers have to protect their crops from birds.

The squrrels in my garden are terrible.  They destroy all my pears before they're even ripe enough for them to actually eat!
