Must admit, l have always loathed New Year's Eve, which was quite difficult when my OH used to organise NYE parties for his social club! All that jollity at midnight was not for me, it was as though the next morning the whole world would be a better place, when in reality it would probably be a grey January day. I used to shut myself in the ladies loo at midnight and reappear 5 minutes later. I felt bad for OH, but l couldn't stand all the kissing and Auld lang syne (Apologies to any from Scotland ) .Sorry, l should have posted in the Curmudgeon section !
I hate new year parties too. If they're awful or if you're a curmudgeon, you can't go home until after midnight. I suppose it's worse if it's your own party that turns out to be awful and you can't get rid of you're guests until next year. What with the demise of cheques, I haven't even got used to writing 2018 yet😞
new year - I'm usually in bed long before midnight. I have done the party down the pub thing and it was fun but it gets repetitive quite quickly. The third year in a row that we did it was probably one more than we really wanted.
We do try to go for a good long walk on NYD unless the weather is really awful. I have a sort of rule that I don't worry (at all) about what I eat or drink between Christmas and New Year, so NYD is last chance to indulge before going back to a healthier diet between New Year and Christmas. The TV's usually better than at Christmas, too.

Really enjoying reading your comments and stories on here - thank you for sharing. I must say that my days in a choir were excellent for having a big dose of that Christmassy feeling (although the practising in September was a bit odd!).
Thanks for that pansyface, l know if it wasn't for this forum (and you!) I would never have found out about those old local carols. I was in the choir at school, in my last year at Junior School l remember leading in the girls, and the boy who was stood next to me leading in the boys, sang the opening to "Once in Royal David's City" before we started up the aisle. I always remember being in the front of the choir stalls and looking out at the congregation, it was magical. Some years later l got married in that church, looking at the choir and thinking "l stood there once !"
Well, please excuse that last post of mine! I don’t know what came over me, talk about doom and gloom!! I heartily apologise for making such a miserable post at this time of the year!🤭😉🤫
Pass Hazel the humbugs, someone! I would agree with you, despite not being religious, and that's why we're quite low key. Something I really loathe is the enormous piles of presents children are given, when that sort of spending [if you want to do it] should be on their birthday, which is their special day after all. Anni - no need to apologise - I hate New Year and always have. I babysat a friend's children on the Millenium. I don't like that song either - mainly because people never sing it correctly. Curmudgeon corner for me, for all of those comments!
