A yellow rose to replace an unhappy Charles Darwin?

  • Funny I found this post. I just ordered Charles Darwin to put.... in front of my Oranges and Lemon so it grows below it.  :D I live in the desert of Arizona USA which I think gets a little hotter than Spain. All roses here tend to suffer in the hottest months, except those in shade. It takes a good year or two to get established
My Pat Austin just barely made it, I already lost a graham Thomas but I got 2 more to put in. It just comes with the territory.

Long story short, give it another year and during the summer... shade it for part of the day. Yup you probably won't get great blooms but it allows the roots to develop better. Remember half the plant is underground, the healthier and larger the root system the more it can push growth up top. Focus on good roots first year or two and you'll get your results back tenfold later. I think many forget that in the rush to get blooms.
