Help with my Money Plant (Jade Plant)

Hi, I have a problem with my Money Plant. It is dropping leaves and has white bits on, also there seems to be a lot of black seed like things around it. I’ve had a google and think it may either be Mealy bug or powdery mildew. I have sprayed it with a spray for aphids / mealy bugs and then spotted the bug like thing on it. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

It looks to me like it might be some sort of caterpillar damage, that would account for the black seed like things (poo!).
Maybe someone else will know more.

Looks to be quite old and dare I say, past its best. I would take a new shoot and root it and start again.

  • I’m not sure how old it is Hogweed and it is looking sorry for itself at the moment, but was doing really well. I’ve already got one baby from it which is doing well but I just wanted to try and save this one.

Sometimes it is too much trouble to save a plant  :/
I would ditch the old one and concentrate on the 'baby'  :)

    Be very drastic!
Cut off all stems with foliage to bare branches ; remove from pot and wash off all soil in a dilute bleach solution ; let roots dry before re-potting ; stand in a warmish dry place and let cut stems callous over ; resume watering as normal in the Spring .

    Cured !!

Thanks Paul, I don’t know if I’m brave enough   :# I’ve sprayed it so I’ll leave it a few days and see what happens. If it gets worse I will go with drastic action. I’ve got a baby one from it at least if I end up killing it  :(

I've done this with cacti infested with mealy bug over the years ; bleach is as good an insecticide as any commercial product .
Washing the roots thoroughly removes eggs and whatever else lurking within .
If you do decide on the 'drastic' approach , stand your plant in as bright a position as posssible ; it will soon regrow ! ;)
    Good luck either way !!
