  • I agree the leaf is different, wish my parents had got a photo of the actual plant but unfortunately they didn’t think of that and just picked up the one leaf lol 
  • I think the leaf may be an individual part of a full leaf, maybe acer griseum?

    Acer griseum ...common name Paperbark maple has the most fabulous bark...even on young trees...a very rich reddish brown...flakey. From what you said earlier this doesn't seem to fit.

    Stalk /leaf shape / lack of hair on stalk don't look correct for Acer griseum.

    I have heard that in UK the trees do not produce viable seeds.

    There are only 6 Acer sp with trifoliate leaves...others are quite rare.

    They can’t remember the exact colour of the bark now, I’ve just asked, but I suppose it’s worth a try propagating them anyway and seeing what happens 😊
