So sad, that such deluded, self-important creatures cannot get it into their obtuse heads that others are at least as important as they are.

     The self-important are ever present....

I'm pleased to know it, Sam.

I've not been pleased with the interminable dreariness of today's weather though.  We had planned to go to Hampshire for the W/E with some friends but the chill and the incessant rain put paid to that!

That is a pity, Zoe.  We went to Hampshire in July, just for a week.  The first 2 or 3 days were lovely but it then changed to very cold!

Early in September, we went to Greece for the wedding of my cousin's daughter.  Lovely weather.

... a man, probably in his 60s or 70s, short, obese and angry, trying to intimidate the young lady, who was “controlling” the queue, with his shouting: he couldn’t wait because he had to be somewhere to do something very important (I couldn’t quite catch what).

Though I find such people intolerable, at the same time I truly feel sorry for them.  It is a well observed fact and has been written about many times that such angry, rude, disrespectful individuals have had not only unhappy but often violent childhoods.  They, generally, felt ignored and disrespected.  All that "I'm somebody important" is an effort to convince themselves that they're not entirely worthless.  They're not unkind.  They're damaged.

I had always been a bit puzzled by the fact that across the pond people call aubergines "egg plants".  Earlier this year, a neighbour gave me some of his aubergine seedlings.  Some have produced ordinary fruit, in colour and form, but others have produced eggs!

Mercifully, they have the proper taste, despite their appearance!

    Artemis, THANK YOU!

Perhaps those who don't use gas, electricity, supermarkets etc., etc. can't find it of interest?
