  • Zoe, Phaidra and Helen, thank you for your posts.

Books, like much else in life, either appeal or fail to do so.  The skill of the writer, not just his/her "knowledge of facts" has much to do with it, I believe.  Those truly effortful styles just wear me out!

I haven't read F Tophill's book, though as a presenter I like her enormously.  As for Monty, he is simply gifted.  I do hope all is well with him, as he seems to be absent from GW rather often lately.

And so do I.  I do miss his reassuring presence during his absences.

When I first got married, OH kept buying me the Expert series of books by Dr Hessayon - he himself definitely not a gardener.

I take it HE is your OH, not  Dr Hessayon   ;)

One of the gardening books I like is Monty's "The Complete Gardener".

I do agree, he's a gifted man.  Also agree that his absences have been rather too frequent.  Let's hope nothing is really wrong.

And speaking of books, I've just finished this

Stephen Fry has described it well.

Now I must see to breakfast!

It appears that conspiracy theorists and an incompetent government are a dream combination for the spread of Coronavirus...

Surely, it has been accepted that when you want to test your eyesight during a pandemic, you just FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS?

Yes, but did each one of them drive, with their sick family, at least 260 miles north first?

To be acceptable, these things must be done in the right order...

I've got an optician's appointment next week and I'm not sure if I can go due to being on lockdown and not being allowed to leave the borough. I'm more concerned that I'll be stopped by police who'll think I'm taking the Mick if I say I'm going for an eye test. :#
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
