I bought mine from eBay, 3mt lengths, but they weren’t long enough for some plants, by the time you push them into the ground they were to low. they are expensive from eBay, best to go to a local builders merchants, they are always ridged as they are for re in forcing concrete sheets, so need to grip. Next time I will buy 4mt lengths.

Just looking at Montys video, he leaves them open, I bend mine right into a circle then bend the legs, that way they spring open as you pull them apart, they circle the plant, you learn as you go on, the first one I did like Montys, the plant just fell out of the back! So now I do them in the circle, keeps everything in, neat and tidy.

@Lyn in which case I use two - one at the back, one at the front. Easier when you wait like me when the stems are falling over and with me, a lot of my plants it's just the front that needs lifted.

@Lyn & @hogweed, I use both/either of your solutions, depending on the situation. Anyway now I have discovered those metal supports & my own method of making them I couldn't do without them. I have quite a collection. Some I leave permanently in place but most I remove at the end of the season and stock for the winter. One problem I've found is that they can become quite hard to remove from the ground if left to rust there.

I can't see any use for 1m of metal rod.
