@Jules41- Victorian garden- Remember it! sad man that I am I can practically recite most of the scripts verbatim. I recorded the original series on VHS now have it on DVD, still available if you go on the net. Wonderful series even the Kitchen part has some gardening & parts where Harry dispenses his wisdom- gets me through the dull winter days on a regular basis. Curiously on GW finish date Beechgrove goes on for another 2 weeks and they usually finish earlier. Perhaps Monty is going on his travels again.
Paul N - Monty is not reassuring because he makes too many mistakes which even an amateur like me can spot so I no longer feel I can trust what he says about how and when. However, I do like the visits to other gardens and the pieces with CK and Adam. I really disliked the TB era and am unhappy to see him sneaking back in to GW. I can't watch AT in his current form but his HTBG series was brilliant and timeless.
Anni D - now that Beechgrove goes out nationwide on Sunday mornings and people can access it on Thursdays thru Sky and the like it has a much bigger audience than before and a huge following down south where the growing season is a tad longer than in Aberdeen. Great that they carry on for longer now.
I have the Victorian Garden book. Must have another read. I have the 3 GH DVDS plus one with some excerpts form his tim eon GW. I play them while I'm sewing upstairs and OH has them on his homework list to watch before we get into terrace laying mode - if we ever get any rain to soften the ground so we dig out for the hardcore!

Please don't shoot me, but l like Toby Buckland l always thought he got a rough deal from the BBC when they tried to turn GW into a version of Top Gear with it's cool wall on the shed . The money they spent on taking over that old rugby pitch, then just abandoning it when it didn't work out...... Then when Monty decided he was fit enough to return, it was bye Toby , close the shed door on your way out. I thought that garden he visited on Friday was lovely, by the way.
Yes AnniD, Not one of GW's finest hours. "What is hot this week?" sort of thing. I'd forgotten about the rugby pitch too. Wasn't that down to a new 'Blue Peter' type producer? I don't know. Perhaps he was always going to be Monty's stand in; perhaps they were surprised that he recovered so well? Whatever I love it the way it now is, dogs and all.
AnniD… you are not alone, I always liked Toby Buckland, and still do, in fact he's the only presenter I watch on the Chelsea Flower Show, so I flick through on iPlayer to catch up with any of his reports... I would like to see him have his own gardening show, but well away from the BBC...
I like Toby too - and I reckon he got a bum deal there. It's not always the fault of the presenter if the 'powers that be' want things a certain way. I think they were trying to be 'modern' and get young people interested in gardening to a certain extent. Change the perceived idea that only old people garden. All things to all people etc. No programme can do that, no matter who presents it. I'm not keen on the obvious 'box ticking' that seems to be prevalent on the Beeb nowadays. I'm saying no more on that I'd also agree that AT's 'How to be' prog was excellent. I don't miss gardening progs when they're off over winter, but maybe I'm unusual. Plenty of other things to keep me occupied, and I'm bored with the garden by then Gardening is largely over by November here, unless you have a greenhouse and grow lots of stuff in it, or have a huge garden and do lots of hacking and slashing and clearing when it's dry enough.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
