Thanks @obelixx. I've never heard if it, but then I suppose they've never heard of me either!
It has to be pretty bright to show up in the London sky.
I realise that other forms of pollution are more immediate danger, but light pollution really ****** me off.

  • If you're in London, it's very unlikely to be  star.  More likely to be Jupiter at this time of year.

You won’t see the planets now in the night sky.  You may see Mars, but I would think as it’s now quite low in sky, with light pollution you wouldn’t see it, they have been fantastic this past few months, Mars Appearing at its largest since 2003, the others all in a line, sadly disappeared now below the horizon.
@B3what time of the night do you see your star in the north at its brightest at the moment?

Well I noticed it at about 8or9 pm. I don't know when it's at its brightest.
It was so bright, l thought it was a plane coming towards me, but it didn't veer off.
My house backs  NNE and it was directly opposite the window

I'm not a fan of mobile phones, but I have Mobile Observatory on mine.
One of the features is you point your phone at the sky and it will show what's up there and label everything.

Was just going to suggest an app too - I've used Sky Map for celestial curiosities.
