Need donations for community gardening

Don't worry, I'm not asking individuals!

My local community group is looking to plant spring bulbs and winter pansies around the area.  But we have no money.  So do anyone of you know of any groups or garden centres or nurseries that are willing to donate plants and/or money for plants to community groups?  Anything at all would be helpful.

You could try a crowd funding site, there are several on the net.
    https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/
you could knock on doors in the neighbourhood asking if any has and would be willing to sow seeds for you, or donate bulbs.

  • Thanks Lyn, but I think we are already doing both of those.  Although I will check on the crowdfunding site.
We are looking for ideas in general in case some one knows something we haven't thought of.

Go online and look at Freecycle, the Green Plant Swap, and Next Door.  And, of course this forum has a seed swap.

Have a pop up  charity shop fund raising event.
Raise £££ to buy what you want need.
It works well up here for all manner of local charities.

It sounds like a very local initiative, so businesses in or near your community would be the best place to start looking for donations.

  • Is there a Waitrose anywhere in your area?  They give money to local causes.   :)

I'd contact any local garden centres. They may either give you or let you have some things at cost price (compost, plants, bulbs etc) in return for a bit of advertising.

Our council plants up the roundabouts and verges at major junctions. They quite often have a 'Sponsored By ....' sign displayed. If any of the sites you are planning are near local businesses maybe the businesses would sponsor a bed each. It could be quite cheap advertising for them if you can get the plants at cost price and keep the beds small.

That's a genius idea!   I'm already a member of Freecycle but haven't been on there for ages.

Another good one.  I shall put that forward to the committee in case we need insurance to do it.
