Opinions on Corsican Hellebore

Evening All,

I bit the bullet today and lifted 3 x lamium which I had planted in spring but which have been obliterated by slugs.

Looking at possible replacements I came across Corsican Hellebore.  I'm looking for a robust evergreen which will be at the front of border with a mature mophead hydrangea behind.

Anybody have experience of growing Corsican Hellebores?  How have they performed on your garden?

Thanks

Racine

I think that's too huge and floppy for front of border

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • Floppy doesn't sound good.  I've got about 1m x 0.5m space to fill and it is the edge of a path (see below).  Any other suggestions welcome.  RHS plant finder always throws up elephant's ears but I'm not sure if I want to go there.

Agree with nut, lovely plant, but needs to go further back in the border.
    Mine often need support.

  • Thanks @Joyce21.  Floppy sounds like a general consensus.

Anyone growing any sturdier, evergreen helebores?

All the Oriental type hybrids are self supporting and much shorter.

Whatever you choose it needs to be small, that hydrangea will be at the edge of the border next year.
Cuttings I put in the ground about 3 years ago are now 5’  in all directions.
