I was never a great Beatles fan, but I think John Lennon got it about right.

The funny thing is, that from my memory of lessons in a Catholic school: the whole Mary QoS thing was ALL about the persecution of Catholics.
Not brainwashing at all in any shape or form then eh?

Whereas my late Ma's memory of a convent school education was mainly that the Jews killed Jesus.

Peace on earth, goodwill to all men .................. some hope eh?

Ma and Mel Gibson at the same school shock  ... the mind boggles  rolleyes  ... but I think it was a pretty widespread doctrine promulgated at such places .... along with the vindictive violent punishment for ..... well, for things that couldn't be helped by young anxious children no matter how tightly they'd crossed their legs    :'(

Hosta - definitely local bias.  By the time Mary fled Scotland her nobles were mostly protestant and against her.  Suspected of murdering her husband amongst other things.  Her son was taken away as a baby and brought up protestant and ruled England as such when he followed on from Elizabeth.

Did Mel Gibson go to school?

I’m sure everyone has their own thoughts on this. My personal view is that it is an invasion of privacy and it is rude to ask strangers for a treat. I suppose it is exciting for little kids to dress up, but teenagers probably won’t be seen as cute or fun. In our family we were only ever allowed to go to people’s houses that we knew/also had children. Now, I never answer the door on Halloween - just my preference.
I feel the same! I never answer the door now. The teenagers who have come round freak me out when they are wearing masks you can't even see who it is or if they are ligitimatly trick or treating or have a different agenda.im not taking the risk as these days you need to be so careful especially during the night. Half the children don't even know why they are doing trick or treat and the history behind it, it's become too Americanised and unless parents accompany children I don't think they should be going round knocking on strangers doors. Just keep it for those you know.

I don't know about Halloween - I'm already sick of seeing Christmas tat for sale already!  All gardening-related products have been cleared away and last year's plastic decorations are in their place. I even saw a Christmas ad on tv yesterday. .. and I still have lovely sunflowers coming into bloom!🌻🌻🌻 I love Christmas - but not until December!

There's a lady in my area who accompanies her kids on their rounds every year. She drives slowly along the streets while the kids walk. I don't recognise her or the car and I suspect she is doing this around most of the town. The kids don't say trick or treat or even thank people and they try to grab as many sweets as they can in one handful. I've seen them rip open packets of sweets straight away and drop the packet on the floor. I would make a bet that they refer to Halloween as something like 'free sweets day'. If there were more people like that I'd give up on it but in fairness most of the kids are local and very polite and they seem to have a lot of fun.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
