I have good socks already, FG . A few years ago I developed a guilty addiction to Bridgedale socks. Bought a pair because I'd accidentally gone away with walking boots and no walking socks and they were the only ones on offer, even though they cost considerably more than I would ever have considered paying out of choice. Thereby discovered the joy of really really good socks and have since requested them as birthday / Christmas presents so have quite a few pairs. Heaven!
My sister bought me two pairs for Christmas, they were on offer so she decided to try a pair herself... let's just say we may be keeping Bridgedale afloat between us...

PS I have now worn my safety boots for three college days. No chafing, no pain overall but my feet still ache at the end of the day - I think it's the weight.

Thanks all for your comments! Walking boots are no problem at a specialist shop (not the big chains who tend to have nowt smaller than a 4) - I used Foothills in Sheffield last time. I like Bridgedale for thick socks, and cheap children's supermarket socks for plain black/navy thin socks. M&S do socks in different sizes now but they're a bit pricey and the quality isn't what it used to be.
Re. online shopping I have found a few shoe brands that work. I like Fly London for comfy boots that have a bit of height to them - their 2.5 often fit. Keen "outdoor" type sandals are made in smaller sizes but not always easy to find in UK. Clarks size 3 really is a 3 (35.5 not 36) but don't have them in stores much so online it is. I've looked at Asos but it's mostly not my kind of thing.

HaHa @Kitty 2. The top end is very pretty but the feet end...not so much! She has her dad to thank for that! I'm now getting ads for Sports Direct having clicked the link on this thread and despite having AdBlock plus installed!

They're hard to beat LG. I have various makes of socks, but the B'dale ones work well for me. They might seem expensive, but they last. Certainly worth it for hillwalking anyway, although maybe not for anyone who wouldn't wear them regularly. You often get good deals on them in spring/summer. When I went away last year for a couple of days, I managed to forget my usual ones. Fortunately, I had a lighter pair with me, which I often wear anyway [ also B'dale ] so I wore them with a liner sock. They were fine for my short outing on Stac Pollaidh - probably not so good if I'd done my intended target. Glad you're managing your boots
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
