Another salvia " Royal Bumble" does well for me, and it lives up to it's name. The bees love it !

Bumble and Red Velvet can tend towards the tender, if in a very exposed spot or in waterlogged soil. I lost one last winter, but most have been fine. Always good to take cuttings just in case. Red Velvet have significantly larger flowers, in my garden, at least.

@Fire, my Bumble lasted for 5 years in a sheltered spot, until the Beast from the East finished it off. It's "children" are doing well, in fact cuttings wise l must be a few generations along!

Yesterday I went to Conwy's annual Honey Fair (an unmissable event for gardeners and anyone concerned about wildlife) and came back with:  Lobelia cardinalis, Salvia "Cherry Queen", Lychnis arkwrightii "Vesuvius" and a Pelargonium of unknown variety.  It's the ivy-leaved type with a small scarlet flower.  I'm trying to show you a picture of them, but it's not working.  I'll try again later.

OH gave me a coral red lagerstroemia recently - very red and long flowering from August and still going strong.  Might need to check it for hardiness tho.
