Looks lovely. I'll have a think but it may take a day or two as I'm not at home. Busy setting up daughter in her apartment for 2 years of Masters. Plenty of time as the best months for planting are October and November.
Before you plant anything tho, I'd get that bay roof and guttering looked at to make sure it's clean and leak proof as that will be difficult once plants are growing.

Absolutely - it's all in hand - whole house is a project...hoping to get in by November, but I may have to wait with planting if not.
Thank you for your time and good luck with setting up your daughter
I do love the idea, dappledshade, but I think the space between your door and side door offers a very limited size planting hole and would be too narrow at a brick and a half wide, to intertwine a rose and clem. Possibly more leeway the other side, re planting hole size and width, if you don’t mind the foliage blocking the side window of your bay a bit. Perhaps try planting a twining duo that side only, to train up over the door, and see how it goes? Sorry can’t help with the combo but looking forward to seeing some!

Good point, Nollie - I guess the bay is rather in the way for multiple plantings - I had considered planting to the right if it, where the drainpipes are, and trailing them along to reach the door! i just love roses and clems, what can I say! 'blocking' a side window of the bay a bit with plants sounds like a great idea
On this wall here we have rose Aloha, a repeat flowering shrub or climber, the wall is 8 ft high, the rose is scented with excellent foliage, through it we grow a selection of Viticella Group clematis, Lavender Twirl, Dark Eyes, Vitiwester, also clematis Rising Star and clematis Semu
That bay window is going to need some serious attention soon. The centre section is falling down. Have you had surveyor to look at it? Check for damp on the inside too. Sorry to be a party pooper.

You're not being a pp at all and yes, full structural survey done - bay needs some reconstructing and new lintel. Damp is coming from the guttering above that has seen better days and is clogged with rubbish (house not lived in for 2 years). Inside is all sound - no damp coming from any source other than leaking windowsills and guttering, so all good It's a lovely old lady of a house, which with some tlc will be restored to its former glory, I hope.

That's beautiful, Richard - thank you for sharing it. That rose Aloha is gorgeous - almost lilac pink. I love it. Slightly at your incredible garden! I'm off to google Lavender Twirl clems now...

Lavender Twirl is stunning - I think I'll have to have that one somewhere in my garden, at some point. I've got The Generous Gardener and The New Dawn roses currently in pots and was wondering which may work with a good purple or lilac clem.
