Oh - Sun has come out...I had forgotten what it looks like! Shame can’t get out in garden this afternoon as we off to MIL’s for Sunday lunch. I have Dahlia buds ready to burst open so I hope the Sun will spur them on. Have a pleasant Sunday folks.
If it wasn't for the nip in the air it's like a summer day here. Long may it last. I drove along a road this morning where the trees on one side had only a few shrivelled leaves and those on the other side were still in full leaf. Effect of Storm Ali I suppose.
doc - we expect pix of the 'new' sofas when you get them back. Bummer about having to move everything though. The downside of growing things from cuttings and seed etc. They all have to go somewhere I'm trying to stop myself taking cuttings, as there really isn't room for much more here and it would be new things I'd want, not more of what I have. I'm also aware of new owners being daunted by lots of plants, which many people are. Hard not to stick a bit ina pot and see what happens though. It's lovely here too Joyce - sorry everyone who's in the rain/wind. It's got to 13, but no breeze, so it's very pleasant. Hope Hosta hasn't crashed his van hearing me say that We're not used to those 20 plus temps Obs [see above comment;) ] Us pasty faced , fair skinned, ginger haired Celts. The wee goldie appeared again at the feeder. She/he flew off and then I heard their 'peeping' noise, and spotted two on top of the conifer, so I hope it's a little pair and they'll visit often. Not much red visible round the head, so probably a youngster. She/he came back later and was there ages, stopping me going into the shed. It was a pleasing few minutes watching her/him tuck in, and I got some photos this time

Hello all. Not a bad day hereabouts... cool, at 11C, but sunny.
Lovely to have goldfinches, Fairy. Ours haven't reappeared yet after the summer, but I'm sure they will once the supply of wild seeds has run out.
Thanks to you and Wonky for commiserations over the travel fiasco on Friday. It hasn't put me off public transport though; having a rail card, plus free bus travel, makes it much more competitive with driving, and fundamentally I believe I ought to be saving the planet when I can... even at some inconvenience to myself.
Must go and clear that downspout which overflows every time it rains...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Forgot to comment on this fiasco earlier Liri. I hope you have registered a complaint about the failures. After all, if you buy a ticket, it's supposed to get you somewhere isn't it?
Been and indoor sort of day today thanks to a few hours of steady drizzle. I've finally labelled and stashed the last 2 doz pots of passata and dried toms, tidied up the annex, organised space for my new mosaic hobby doings, cleared the way for leccy and tiler to finish the shower room, oiled a table and even polished some old Indian brasses.
Well-earned coffee now and then sorting fabrics for next 3 patchwork projects...... Arni Kelftiko in the oven, very low and slow. Organised Obxx!
Your birdy visitors sound lovely FG. Nothing like them here but not surprising. Our locals have been very quiet lately but we did have some sparrows, chaffinches and a robin at the feeders earlier and there's plenty of chat in the trees at odd intervals.

Evening all. Did I say I'd been into work on Wednesday to check , and been told I'd not be driving Sunday afternoons any more? I got back at lunchtime and went to tell the driver who would be using the van that it only had 1/2 tank of fuel. I looked up at the board, and there was his name; ME. It wasn't there when I left the store this morning. I despair of our management at times. I'm driving at least the next 4.
I arrived this morning and one of the mangers was getting out of her car. " is there a Q in the month?" "No, why?" "you never work on a Sunday" " Yes I do " "Not this year you haven't" " I've done several" "SEVERAL?? REALLY????" I asked all my "every Sunday" colleagues and not one of them confirmed her having worked a single Sunday this year, so why lie about it? why not just say something like " yeah, I'm very lucky " or some such thing?
@raisingirl , the rain let up here around 10, so my jacket has been hanging in the van all day, unused. @Fairygirl we got to a rather bracing 13.5C but nice in the sun after 36 hours of rain.
I'm off to see if the lake has filled up any more.
Managers - sigh.... Glad you didn't get 'drookit' Hosta Been a grand day here - it actually got to fifteen briefly, but it was breezy later. Good for the washing, and much better than the in and out of yesterday. Goldie visited again and was unperturbed by my sawing and drilling. Really hoping they hang around Obelixx. Hope yours come back too Liri. Been making my 5 star hog accomodation. They'd better come and bl**dy well use it. Trying to use bits of timber I already have, which isn't always easy as they're different weights and widths. I've got some pallets, but taking them apart is hard when you don't have a crowbar. I didn't get custody of those when I left... I ran out of the right size of nails and screws too so a visit to the DIY store is needed. Then it's a case of making the roof, insulating a bit, doing a waterproof covering and crossing my fingers.
