    I have laughed out loud at some of the posts on this thread, learnt some things l never knew (and didn't really want to know, if l'm honest), and as has been said, enjoyed the fact that it stayed good humoured. Many thanks !  :)

    Re the recent discussion on the point of botanical names, when I go to the fish market the labels on the displays give the French name for each fish on offer but also its Latin name.   Helps me tell my hake (merlu) from my whiting (merlan).

    We always flushed our fish too.  Kept marine fish but the mortality rate was just too high.  The last straw was when our starfish lost it's legs one by one until it was just a dot with one leg scooting round the aquarium. We got rid of the tank before Greenpeace got wind of our efforts to decimate the coral reefs of the world.
