Good Luck @Obelixx with your cuttings. Didn't realise you were not in UK.

I found more penstemon which I'd missed yesterday , so I've just taken another batch. I'm doing mine in water after reading from others on here.

Have you labelled then Hosta, I have a habit of putting cuttings in water with the idea of labelling later or I will remember, you get a nice surprise next year when they bloom because they’re never what I thought they were.

Took some cutting of penstemon Raven, looked healthy enough yesterday. Checked them this morning to find them eaten away to nothing, and a small bright green caterpillar looking rather full. Am trying the cuttings in water system now !

Do people use rooting powder? I bought a tub to try. Cuttings in water still all alive but only roots on verbena boniarensis so far! Really hoping the daphne cuttings take, when I do plant into soil I tried the idea of planting into old plastic bottles so I can see any roots. Much easier then just guessing!

When I was at "horti" college , a million years ago: I was told that the active ingredient in rooting powder is acetone, ( nail polish remover ) and it was "diluted" to one part in a million with talc. I've never used it.

I have been using one from Westlands that says ORGANIC? Natural ingredients. Don't know what's in it?

Taken some cuttings today, first thing. Put some in water and some in pots. Sadly my last cuttings experiment seems to have robbed me of any side shoots on my verbena lollipop but maybe there will be some in the next week or two. So fingers crossed. Thanks for encouragement and advice. Now if they root I just have to keep them alive this winter ! Already looking forward to the spring!! :O)
