Plant? Tree? Weed? Can anyone help identify this . Approx 6inchs in length. Bark-like stem

    Plant, tree , weed. Yes, yes, yes.  Looks like a tree seedling. Not sure what though. I can't decide between a sweet chestnut or some exotic oak like Turkey Oak

    I agree with 'oak' ... but I agree it doesn't look quite right for an English Oak ... although they do vary a bit.

    I agree with treehugger - turkey oak or Quercus cerris.

    Leaves don't look like any cherry tree or other prunus I've ever seen  :)

    Hello aidan. I suspect we are all talking about different plants here. Can you be a little bit more specific about which plant you are wanting us to identify for you.
    If you mean this marked plant in your second picture
    Then I agree with Lizzie that it looks like a Cherry tree stub.

    That looks considerably more that 6" in length as Aidan described ... the oak seedling looks about 6" and is in the centre of the photo ...
