"I just heard on an RHS podcast that planting or spreading seed of Ash is prohibited."

Will someone please tell the Ash trees?
I’ve just popped out and had a word.  The Ash says it’s sorry, and won’t do it again.

Can you come and tell the one at the back end of my garden too, pretty please?

It was a full sized-ish tree when I moved in. I cut it down and used the trunk for something I think. It's outside my fence, bordering the pavement/road, having seeded there at some point in the past. Not a massive issue really, and I hack it back to the ankles every year [or more often if I have the secateurs in my hand] but the bu**er simply doesn't know when to quit....

We had several cut down when we moved in. They did the very same thing of course but they got the stump killer treatment in the end. It was the only practical way to see them off as we couldn't get a stump grinder to their location.

They keep seeding themselves under my pines. I've just mowed about dozen of the wee skitters! That won't stop them either but I'll just mow them again!  :D

Mine is behind a pine and a conifer ppauper. It's wedged right in on the kerb. Tenacious doesn't begin to describe it!
I'd thought of getting a grinder Dave, but I'm too tight to spend the money  :D
I might get some of that stump killer stuff though.

Here's one that use to grow in the hedge bordering my back garden:

After one stormy night back in November 2002 it looked like this:

That's the remains of an 8x6 greenhouse under it.  It also took a few tiles off the house roof, directly above the upstairs window the photo was taken from.  Amazingly, the little 4x6 only lost a few panes!  I got my own back though, with the help of a chainsaw.  Provided fuel for the open fire for a couple of years.  I also managed to straighten enough of the smashed greenhouse frame to combine with the small GH to make a 10x6 which is still going strong. :)
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

You were really lucky with that Bob. It could have been so much worse. At least you got some use out of it after the clear up!
