I suspect there must be some people who go into politics for all the right reasons i.e. to serve their constituents and make a positive difference. Sadly they will soon realise that if they want to get anywhere they have to forget 'all the right reasons' and toe the party line.
They would have a job on if they wanted to serve all their constituents, every one wants something different. I think I would rather be an optimist than a cynic, you can waste a lot of energy being cynical, optimistics are generally happier people, or is that just me?

In my experience, it's realists that are the happiest. Optimists are constantly disappointed. Cynics find it hard to be happy no matter what happens. Realists are happy they were right.
