Having been involved in writing some election leaflets, I am afraid to say, they are really not worth the paper they are written on.

perhaps we should just get rid of MPs altogether. They are supposed to represent the views of constituents (although I doubt that's ever actually been true) but these days we don't need representative democracy. We could just run a referendum on everything on the internet. At least I could sell my vote directly to whoever wants to bribe me, rather than my MP getting it all.

Gosh, I think I might be losing my " most cynical Forker" title.  ;)

How many of us actually contact our MP? What do they actually do for us , as constituents?
There are simply far too many of them.

Campaign groups like 38 degrees encourage people to contact their MPs a lot. I think they even set up a standard 'I haven't read any of the facts and don't really understand but I'm outraged anyway' email letter for you now. If they keep this up we'll need more MPs just to deal with the paperwork.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Just moving away from politics for a moment ( ;) ), just to say l am feeling totally bl**dy curmudgeonly this morning due to being kept awake by raging toothache all night. Dentist appointment at 12.30, hopefully he'll take the thing out.

God luck with that.  My new dentist here has replaced all but two of my old metal fillings with new stuff after I was getting too sensitive to hot and cold.   That might be all you need and maybe a root canal.  Better than extraction.

I like to think I'm more of a realist than a cynic. Optimists are just kidding themselves. :|
